LIMESTONE
WALLS
BASIC TIPS
- Spending the extra time getting a level base will
make the rest of the wall go faster.
- Scoring the stone with a saw first, then splitting
with a chisel will give you a more precise split.
- Sizing your stone ahead of time will save you time
in the long run.
- Small left-over pieces of stone work well for shims.
GENERAL RULES
- 4-6" of compactable base should be under the
bottom course (hand-tamped in 2" lifts).
- For walls over a foot tall, granular backfill, drain
tile, and fabric are needed.
- 2" of set back for every foot of wall is required.
- All joints and corners should be staggered.
- Varied thickness of stones should be used throughout
the wall.
