WINTERIZING A POND

General Tips and Rules

• The pump located in the skimmer box of a pond needs to be removed for the winter to protect it from freezing.
• Loosen nut at top of check valve of the pump where it connects to the water line.
• Be prepared for water to drain from the line as you remove the nut, this will depend on the size of the pond and slope of the location.
• Remove filter pads from the skimmer
• Lift out pump / check valve unit.
• Store pump submerged in a bucket of water in a warm location
• That’s it for winterizing!
