The

Nursery and Landscape Association is to help the members
of nursery and landscape related industries in Minnesota operate
their business more successfully by:
- Providing continuing education, both technical and business,
for the membership and for consumers.
- Assisting in promoting industry marketing.
- Monitoring and influencing governmental affairs.
- Promoting professionalism on both industry and personal
level.
- Responsibly improving and maintaining our environment.
- Encouraging and supporting cohesive relationships with national
organizations
- Promoting a spirit of collegiality among the membership
which will encourage interaction and networking.
Each member of the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association
is pledged to conduct himself or herself and business on the
highest ethical plane and to endeavor to elevate the standards
of the nursery industry.

With
a certification program for nursery and landscape professionals,
the MNLA continues to serve Minnesota's lawns and gardens.
Since 1978,
the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association has sponsored
a Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional (CP) program
for individuals in the nursery and landscape industry. Since
then, more than 700 individuals has achieved certified status.
The certification program was created and is administered
with the cooperation and support of the University of Minnesota's
Department of Horticultural Science. The MNLA/U of M Certified
Professional program certifies individuals, not businesses.
By focusing on individuals, the program encourages self-improvement
and provides recognition to those who have advanced their
knowledge.
Prerequisites for attaining the CP standing include two years
of study in accredited postsecondary program of nursery and/or
landscape education, or one year of full-time employment in
the nursery and landscape industry. Having fulfilled the prerequisites,
individuals may then take a comprehensive CP examination,
which tests their knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. Those
who pass the examination receive the CP designation. Continuing
education and participation in industry improvement activities
are required for maintaining CP status.
The LP program provides a benefit to green-industry professionals
by bringing greater value to their career path in the nursery
and landscape industry, by demonstrating their commitment
to the industry, and by enhancing their employability with
the industry. MNLA member businesses that employ CP's boost
their professional image and have an additional means for
employee motivation, evaluation, and enhancement.
Most importantly, the consumers who work with MNLA Certified
Professionals and with businesses that employ CP's are assured
that they are working with the very finest businesses and
individuals that the nursery and landscape industry has to
offer.
